October was a particularly rough month for me. I’ve been hit with a wave of chronic tension migraines that I’m still learning how to deal with. All I know so far is that they’re somehow connected to the strain in my shoulders and neck muscles. I think I might have to start lifting weights…which I’m not excited about. And I’m fairly certain I’m going to have to quit caffeine–my one true love. I’ve been indulging myself when it comes to beauty to take my mind off of everything. Today I’ve rounded up some of my favorites that have been getting me through this bullshit. Sometimes small pick me-ups can make all the difference in your mood.
The Olfactory Favorites
Like I said above, my love caffeine is triggering my migraines, so I’ve had to quit it for now. I’m beyond thankful that scents don’t seem to be a trigger for these bitch ass migraines. I pulled out my Violet Grey x Le Labo Santal 26 Candle $89 and stuck it on my bedside table. It’s so powerful I don’t even have to burn it, but I will eventually. I’m saving it for the first truly cold day for the full ~cozy experience. This particular version is sold out, but you can still get it in the original clear glass packaging for $76 or the new tin packaging for $65. My mood immediately brightens every time I walk into my room and smell the beautiful sandalwood, vanilla, and cedar wood scent this gives off.
I’ve been a big fan of the Elizabeth and James Perfume line since its launch. I own the original Black and White rollerballs–$28 each, as well as Bourbon and Amethyst, pictured here. I’m a huge fan of the Bourbon Dry Shampoo $28–it’s one of my hair essentials. If you’re looking for an affordable intense, warm scent definitely check out this line.
The Radiance Favorites
You wouldn’t know that the weather hasn’t completely transitioned from summer to fall by looking at my skin. The dullness has arrived early. Coupled with these migraines I’ve been feeling and looking rather drained. My go-to favorites for bringing some life back into my face are the Bare Minerals Invisible Light Translucent Powder Duo $32 and the Cover Fx Custom Enhancer Drops in Sunlight $42. The Bare Minerals duo is rocking my world right now. I love using the radiant side to set my under eye concealer–using a glowing setting powder can keep your eyes looking bright all day. Matte setting powder under my eyes always makes me look dry. The matte side of this is great for around my nose, chin, and forehead. The compact is nice and sturdy and I love me a good 2-in-1. I love using the Cover Fx drops mixed into foundation and applied lightly with a beauty blender on my cheekbones. I’m not normally into liquid-to-powder products but these have an unreal amount of dimension and luminosity to them.
I won’t go on too much about the Dior Maximizer Light Boosting Primer because it’s been discontinued. Luminizing primers are my best friend during the cold weather months. If you don’t want to purchase an entirely new primer you can always mix a liquid highlighter or even the Cover Fx Custom Enhancer Drops into whatever primer you’re already using.
Glossier Stretch Concealer $18 took me by surprise. I thought this would be too sheer and fade from my face quickly. To be fair, it does wear off quickly if you don’t set it. I’ve been using it under my eyes and I’m surprised by how brightening it is. I have notoriously dark circles that are hard to cover, but the light reflecting properties of this concealer give the illusion that my circles aren’t as intense as they are. I’ve been setting it with the radiance side of the Bare Minerals duo to give the perfect naturally bright under eye.
The Favorite Tools
My eyelashes have been looking a hot mess lately. Turns out my eyelash curler was to blame. When people say it’s essential to have an eyelash curler shaped to your eye, it’s true. The Tweezerman Rose Gold Pro Lash Curler $22 is apparently shaped for round eyes, which I don’t have. For the past 6 months I’ve been rocking half curled lashes because it couldn’t reach my inner and outer lashes. I found the black version at Sephora and it turns out this one is meant for almond-shaped eyes. I used it for the first time and couldn’t believe the difference it made. Figure out your eye shape and do some research before buying a lash curler!
I’ve talked extensively of my love for the Foreo Luna Mini 2 $139 in other posts on this blog and on my Instagram. Using this every night with my cleanser has made a huge difference in the clarity, texture, and puffiness on my face. I love that the brush features different textures on the front and back depending on how intense of an experience you want. It’s like a face massage and deep cleanse in one, without harming the delicate facial skin.
The Miscellaneous Favorites
I wrote about my love for the Agent Natuer Holi Stick Deodorant $21 in my post on my favorite natural beauty products. I’m still using it and loving it. The scent is lovely and I’m glad to have found a natural deodorant that is actually effective.
Lastly, I grabbed the VERB Ghost Hairspray $16 from Sephora’s VIB sale this past weekend. I was tempted to grab the Ghost Shampoo and Conditioner set as well, but I have other things to work through right now. I own a few products from VERB’s line and I’m super impressed by them so I thought I would give this a go.
Well, that’s all for today babes! If any of you suffer from tension migraines please please please let me know what you do to deal with them. Stay tuned into the latest by following my Instagram//Pinterest//Twitter/Bloglovin!
